Abstract:
Examines the perception that contractorisation increases health and safety risks through additional contracted interfaces, particularly where small companies are involved. Investigation involved selected companies from the events, food processing and health service sectors, with two supply chains being selected in each of these sectors, consisting of a combination of customer and /or second tier suppliers. Questionnaires targeted key areas allowing graded responses, and face-to-face meetings were held with company personnel, complemented by discussion to elicit wider views and opinions. It provides information and recommendations that may be used as the basis for developing future guidance and action.
Recommendations emerged in the areas of : client involvement; legislation; guidance; third party responsibility; and risk assessment and method statement.
