Abstract:
Commonly referred to as the Byrne Report, this report is the result of the SA Government establishing a Committee of Inquiry to examine and report on the most effective means of compensating those injured at work.

Included in this report are the Committee’s recommendations that a new Act be introduced repealing the Workers Compensation Act 1971, that a Board be established to administer a workers’ compensation scheme and that the Board be responsible for overseeing and confirming rehabilitation programs.

A Joint Committee was established to review the recomendations of this report - and a joint agreement was reached which ultimately led to the drafting of new legislation  in 1986 and to the establishment of WorkCover SA in September 1987.
