Abstract:
In 2008 the Danish National Board for Industrial Injuries elected to offer compensation to women who developed breast cancer following a long history of shift working. In view of the potential importance of the topic, the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC), decided to consider the case for prescription. In addition, since the possible association between shift working and ischaemic heart disease (IHD) has also been the subject of a recent Danish review and of major research interest, the IIAC decided to consider, concurrently, the evidence relating to this question.
This position paper summarises IIAC’s consideration of the evidence on both subjects and records its conclusions.
