Considers health and safety in small enterprises in the European Union. Aims to examine the means by which the obstacles to the achievement of improved health and safety performance in small enterprises were overcome in different European national settings. Concentrates on health and safety issues in small workplaces and peripheral forms of employment and its linkage to the means of regulating improvements in these areas to wider strategies for the reform of social and economic policies and practices in E. U member states, in an attempt to contextualise both the problem and its solutions. Focuses on the role of diverse social and economic actors such as trade unions, large employers, insurance organisations, business support services and health care providers to further illustrate the range and complexity of the subject.
