Abstract:
To explore the way work affects other aspects of people’s lives and to gauge the extent of time poverty, The Australia Institute conducted a survey of 1,786 adult Australians in June 2010. The survey asked people how many hours they worked in the past week, as well as how many hours they would prefer to work taking into account the effect on their income. The survey results suggest that ‘overwork’ accounts for the equivalent of more than 1.9 million jobs while ‘underwork’ is equivalent to around one million jobs.
