Aims to evaluate novel techniques for improving adaptation to night shift based on a sound understanding of the biological factors that control the adaptation process. The first study evaluated the use of bright artificial light to shift the biological clock controlling the quality and duration of sleep and wakefulness. And in the second study, the use of a naturally occurring hormone – melatonin – to disconnect the biological clock and reduce its control on sleep was evaluated.
