Abstract:
There has been a significant decline in permanent, ongoing work in Australia, and corresponding growth of insecure forms of employment, such as casual work, contract work, and labour hire. Insecure work can be characterised by unpredictable and fluctuating wages, inferior rights and entitlements, unpredictable or overlong working hours, and job insecurity and uncertainty. This inquiry was commissioned to examine the extent of insecure work in Australia and its impact on workers and their families, and to provide recommendations to address any negative effects.
