Abstract:

Aims to identify what types of OSH knowledge circulate and work in organisations with complex delivery systems, and how local stakeholders in organisations interpret information and influence OSH policy and practice.

The project focused on three sectors healthcare, construction and logistics and had several objectives:

  • to evaluate how effective OSH knowledge is as a basis for OSH interventions
  • to show how OSH knowledge is produced and used to address OSH challenges and how organisational power structures can marginalise certain types of knowledge
  • to observe how formalised OSH policy is enacted and plays out in real time.
  • to map verbal, textual and embodied knowledge in the construction, healthcare and transport and logistics sectors
  • to identify effective channels for communicating OSH knowledge

The project was devised as part of the IOSH research programme, “Health and Safety in a Changing World”.
