Despite significant declines in the number of compensation claims in recent years, work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) still account for the majority of workers’ compensation costs. This report provides an overview of the current evidence base on WMSD causes, impacts and intervention. Key workplace hazards are outlined and a range of models to support the complex aetiology of WMSDs are presented. The final sections present key aspects of WMSD intervention literature and perspectives from 20 stakeholders in Australia. The report concludes with some key recommendations for improving current WMSD prevention strategies.
