Abstract:
The report is in four sections. Section 1 explains the effects of being upright and motionless, reviews existing literature and provides evidence of the existence of so-called suspension trauma gained from the literature obtained. It looks at the medical conclusions of the research in the reviews and more closely at the underlying reasons for the dramatic consequences of motionless upright suspension. Finally, it provides information and advice on the management of suspension trauma. Section 2 looks at the advantages and disadvantages of the types of harness available, the position of their various attachment points and the convenience of the location of the attachment point for the user. Section 3 looks at how several standards and legislation address the ergonomic issues of harness, including comfort when suspended. Section 4 gives recommendations and suggestions for further work.
