Presents the work undertaken and results reached in a study on the practical implementation of substitution of chemicals at workplaces across the EU. The focus was on substitution as a risk management measure for reducing the risk to workers’ health and safety from chemicals at the workplace. Substitution has throughout the work been approached through a risk management perspective. The study’s main objectives were to find out if there was a need for a common guidance on substitution across the EU and if needed and seen as a possibility, to develop a common approach to substitution and present this in a draft guidance document.
