Shiftwork disrupts circadian rhythms and sleep, and is associated with impaired performance, safety and health. The drivers for these adverse consequences are complex - they are influenced by individual factors (e.g. work structure, diet, exercise, sleep hygiene, genetics), team factors (e.g. level of cooperation and support), and environmental factors (e.g. organisational climate). Interestingly, while some experience the adverse consequences of shiftwork, others cope very well. The overarching aim of this study is to examine individual and team strategies for coping with shiftwork. Importantly, such strategies are typically intuitive, not always consciously executed and are frequently tailored to fit within particular work -type processes, cultures and constraints. This project investigated these issues in the healthcare and social assistance industry.
