Abstract:
This second edition continues to provide a plain English approach to explaining and analysing the law which regulates workplace health and safety in Australia. Providing broad coverage, the book focuses on the role the law plays in preventing workplace injury and disease, as well as the way in which the law contributes to rehabilitating and compensating injured and ill workers.

The provisions of the varying Australian OHS statutes are outlined, along with court decisions interpreting these provisions. It also covers legal provisions outside of these statutes but which are essential components of any rounded analysis of OHS law and practice.

This book considers these legal principles in their many contexts, applying legislation and case law in a variety of ways. The historical, social, political and economic context of occupational health and safety laws are also covered.

Tables summarising the key legal provisions of the nine major Australian federal, State and Territory OHS and workers' compensation statutes have been updated and are also included, giving quick and easy reference to points of legislation.
